On 14 May, Unit 5 of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant, which is equipped with the world’s first “Hualong One” reactor, completed 1,000 consecutive days of safe and reliable operation. During this period, the reactor has generated over 37 billion kWh of clean electricity.

This achievement follows a number of other notable successes for the “Hualong One” demonstration project. Both Units 5 and 6 at the Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant have received “full scores” from the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) in the Composite Index, and have not experienced any unplanned shutdowns for two consecutive years.

Reaching 1,000 day represents a major step forward for China’s nuclear power technology. It marks China’s evolution from a “follower” to a “leader” within the global nuclear power sector. This progress underscores China’s sustained operational capabilities and highlights the safety and advancement of its independently developed third-generation nuclear power technology.
