On 10 March, at the Second Nuclear Energy Summit held in Paris, France, China announced its accession to the Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy, which was launched by 22 countries at the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28). This move will strongly promote the sustainable development of nuclear energy and the global green and low-carbon energy transition.

Shan Zhongde, Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority, attended the summit’s roundtable discussion on Tripling Nuclear Energy initiative, where he announced China’s accession to the declaration on its behalf. Shan noted that achieving the goal of tripling global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 requires the unity and joint efforts of all countries. Guided by the vision of a community with a shared future for humanity, as proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, China is ready to collaborate with all parties to implement the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, and the Global Governance Initiative. China will promote technological innovation, security governance, industrial collaboration, and win-win cooperation in the nuclear energy sector.
