China Launches Science Program to Further Fusion Research

On 24 November, the Chinese Academy of Sciences unveiled its “Burning Plasma” programme, presenting the research roadmap for the BEST (Burning Plasma Experimental Superconducting Tokamak) project to the global fusion community. The announcement was made in the main hall of the BEST facility in Hefei Future Science City, Anhui Province.

According to the roadmap, experiments on deuterium-tritium burning plasma will begin once the BEST facility is completed at the end of 2027, with the potential to achieve the world’s first demonstration of fusion power generation.
